I think the second one looks better rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

yeah, but I played with the angle's when I took it, and well, I think I got it to look a bit more different. From the norm of usual skate photography that is ^^

All right.

First:
Composition is great. But the old woman's face could be a bit more sad, sick or tired.
I think it's a spontanous?
But why a ISO of 400? Look at the candle.. the noise is much too high imo.
Your able to shoot in 100, so you should I think, increase the shutter speed just a lil bit and it's as bright as it is now.
Btw, shot in .RAW you should be able to shoot in ISO 100 AND a high shutter speed. Could be lighten up than in rawshooter or ps RAW plugin.

second:
hmm.
I try to find a thing that appeals to me. I think it's his position, like flying or standing in the middle of the picture.
Just got problems with the background.. I'd dark the houses to nearly black, and then vignet it (sry.. I actually don't know the English word for it.. I mean: darken the edges of the picture).

That could be the most constructive reply I've gotten, kindo ever.
Thanks for that ^^

Now, First:
Iso400 was used because it was dark, and I didn't want a strong flash.
And because with the 3,5 Fnumber I would be allowed some vignetting.

I shoot in .jpeg because I don't have the software available right now to shoot in Raw. Plus I like to shoot it 'direkt' and not have to make changes afterwards. Much more challanging.

And about the shutterspeed, because I shot it handheld I didn't want to make it blurry.

Concerning her happy face, yes, it was a spontaneos shot. (not the thought behind it though)
And what says untold stories have to be sad?..

About the second:
Well, the building behind do I find fitting, as it's a reference to the 'real' world.
Seeing as this angle could be real if you only saw the concrete.
But when you see the building, you see that it's in a different perspective.
Maybe you could be right. (the image is vignetted already though) ^^

And again, thanks for your constructive reply

Oh yeah, the relistic-aspect is true.
You convinced me

You aren't for postwork then? Good attitude Was my at first, too. But then I realized it's the end product that matters.. so..
And another (stupid) tip: Pick up a bottle of mineralwater or whatever and hold i up in front of you Good for you muscles and for holding up the cam :P

hehe, I try to create as good piece as I can .. before I shoot it, if you understand.
I'd rather take credit for being good at Pre-produce a product rather than post product it. ^^

I now do a bit more post production.
Mostly blurring, vignetting, contrasts and sharpness.

As I'm rather looking at a 'real' photograph than an attempt to create digital art.
My highest requirement for a piece is that it speaks to me. Not that it's good to look at.
(A combination of the two is of course the hardest goal) ^^
But the message is important to me.

And I agree with you, in the end, it doesn't matter if it's post processed or not. Because it's the final product that matters.
But I enjoy being able to work before the shot as I said
